History shows that failure can be the path to success. At school, Napoleon was rated 42 out of a class of 43, yet he built an army to conquer many parts of Europe. George Washington lost 2/3rds of his military battles, yet against overwhelming odds won the revolutionary war and changed American history. Albert Einstein, a slow learner, was advised to change his studies from physics to something else. Yet he is considered the father of the atomic age.
The list goes on. We shouldn’t dwell on people’s failures, the journey to their success, but take the right perspective and look at their contributions to the world.
Only when you consider your failure really is final that you become a failure. Failure is not an event, it’s an opinion.

The fear of failing! Is this you? Are you in this space? The fear of failing could prove fatal in achieving your gaols by preventing you from trying again and again.
Baseball players normally hit the ball 3 out of 10 times. How do these guys go out and play with such a high failure rate. They focus on the law of averages. They know if they keep swinging the bat they will eventually get on base.
In 1952, Roger Bannister a forma English athlete, ran in the Olympics in an attempt to beat the 4 minute mile record. In his race he came 4th place and failing to win anything. However, he refused to quit his goal to run the mile under 4 minutes. The historic event took place 6th May 1954 and Roger Bannister achieved his goal. Nowadays, runners do this all the time.
If you refuse to quit when you fail, you can ultimately succeed. You need to be willing to get back up.
Abraham Lincoln was defeated a number of times on his journey to become the 16th President of the USA. Today, he is considered to be one of the best. The wise man concluded:
‘It’s a mistake to suppose people succeed only through success. They often succeed through failure’.
By doing something the wrong way, you will soon learn to do it the right way. This is so true – practise makes perfect. The truth by failing in one area will drive you to explore other areas.
Most success in life is through trial and error. However, if you don’t like something then you are likely to fail. But this is driven by the lack of effort and commitment. If you hate your job, you are likely to fail at it.
What do you understand about serving leadership? The benefit of failure makes you less judgemental of others. When you experience failure, you become more sympathetic. Instead of pointing and condemning others of their failures, instead you lend a helping hand and show them the way. Instead of saying, ‘I can’t believe you did that’. You take the view that you have been there and because of this understand their pain. This makes you a better mentor.
In the dictionary, striving and struggle comes before the word succeed. Coincidence or done on purpose?
Make the transition to live the dream. Learn from the mistakes you make. Don’t be afraid and have the right perspective.

Change happens. We either initiate it or are part of it. We will cover keys to lesson the impact of change. These keys are to communicate truthfully, early and often and to make as few unnecessary changes as possible.
Imagine a car making too sudden of a turn and flipping over. This is how sudden change feels in an organization. If the driver would have planned ahead, approached the curve at the right angle and speed, the car wouldn’t have tipped over. And even with all that planning everybody in the car is still wearing their seatbelts-just in case.
Lesson: Make change as gradually as you can. Get everyone prepared as far ahead of time as you can. And wear your seatbelt.
How do I do that at work John? You do that by communicating change as far in advance of the event as you can. When? When you are getting your people involved in idea generation and brain storming and at the latest when you are picking which project you pitch to management.
How does that sound?
Well, folks we have generated some great ideas over the last month. The change committee and I have looked at three of the ideas that you guys came up with. It’s our firm judgement that project x has the best ROI and the greatest chance of being approved and funded. Best case scenario, we could be working on this in only six months. Let’s go back to the car wreck scenario. Maybe the car turned over because it was dodging another car. There are very few one car accidents. The next key is to eliminate as much unnecessary change as possible during important change. Think about all the scary changes going on in people’s lives now-housing bubble bursting, stock market gyrations, worry about their jobs. Adding additional change and uncertainty is sometimes necessary-other change is not.
Big idea-What other changes can you put off? What other uncertainties can you cut out? One of the biggest things to focus on is the negative possible outcomes.
▪ Will this important change mean someone loses job security because their old expertise is gone?
▪ Will this important change mean staff changes?
▪ Will this important change mean more or less responsibility for certain people?
▪ Will this important change mean some people will fear for their jobs.
Think about these issues and address them as early and as truthfully as you can.
Action items:
Prepare people for change as soon as you can.
Eliminate any other unnecessary changes.
Reassure people about the effects of the change.
Give people the tools to deal with the change-especially training
Be as truthful as you can about foreseen difficulties and fallout.
When you think you have communicated clearly and often enough-communicate some more!.

Victimhood Starts With Low Appreciation Of Self And Others

I’ve written often about the primary “need” expressed by most of my clients – the need (or desire) to increase their inspirational leadership. I’ve also written a good deal about the two basic types of people out there – the Entrepreneur, and the Victim. It turns out the two concepts are linked. It’s all about appreciation of yourself and of others.
After years of coaching and counseling some of the brightest leaders (and emerging leaders) in today’s business world, I’ve written a guide to practical empathy called “Feelings For Thinkers.” So far, I’ve shared the bulk of the content only with my clients. One of the key pieces in the book is a discussion of what makes the difference between leaning toward your “inner Entrepreneur” or your “inner Victim,” and the two attitudinal types differ primarily in their developed ability to properly appreciate themselves and others.
As I’ve mentioned in previous pieces, I would not suggest that a leader abandon critical reason (or the ability to be critical of work products) in their effort to become more inspirational. Inspiring someone doesn’t mean coddling them. But frankly, most of my smart clients lean too much on their thinking and not enough on their emotional ability, and therefore develop what I teasingly refer to as “Empathy Deficiency Syndrome.” The best leaders are able to be appropriately critical of work products without coming across as being critical of people and their efforts.

The two dimensions of self-appreciation and appreciation of others divide leaders into four basic camps. A person high on self-appreciation and low on appreciation of others tends to come across as the “Arrogant Boss,” and that person’s primary visible attitude is one of entitlement. The opposite type – high on others but low on herself – comes across as the “Humble Servant,” with a primary visible attitude of obligation. The first seems to believe his teammates don’t deserve their positions; the latter, that she doesn’t deserve hers. Neither is an effective style for inspirational leadership.
Both, though, are better than the “Apathetic Victim,” who is low on appreciation of both self and others. Toward himself, such a “leader” has an attitude of concealment – he doesn’t share much of himself because he doesn’t want to be “found out.” Toward others, he’s always critical, usually overly-so. And in general, this political creature is competitive… everything is win-lose, or more commonly, lose-lose.
Obviously, the most inspirational leaders are high on both self-appreciation and appreciation of others. They’re optimistic, roll-up-your-sleeves doers. Such a person has a courageous attitude toward self-discovery, a curiosity about other people (not just their problems, or what they can offer her), and in general, she has a collaborative spirit. She’s likely to have an entrepreneurial bent, and she’s likely to be both inspired and inspiring.
In this age, when a business owner or leader must rely less than his forebears did upon command-and-control authority, inspirational leadership is key. The winners in the coming years will be the leaders who are skilled not just in critical thinking, but in empathy and inspiration. Entrepreneurship is quite an adventure with lots of opportunities for growth and transformation (particularly in conscious business). It requires a certain level of innovation, risk-taking, truth-telling, willingness to be different and self-directed, and the ability to think BIG.
Many of the entrepreneurs that I meet are really great at what they do and how they offer it, but have yet to learn the “how” of being an entrepreneur and allowing it to be their lifestyle. So often, they’re ready to throw in the towel, when all it takes is some mind-set shifts and tweaks in their relationship with their business to shift it from just paying the bills to thriving on all levels.
Here are the top 8 pitfalls that I consistently see for would-be successful entrepreneurs:
1. They are NOT clear on their vision. Losing sight of this creates a disconnect from why they began their business in the first place and makes the mundane tasks, along with the ups and downs, to seem even more meaningless when there is no clear vision about how their business is going to serve them and others.
Tip: Create your 5 year vision of where you and your business are going to be, the difference you are making, how you feel to be in this place, what you are experiencing and how you are showing up in your business (be as specific as you can, and most importantly, have fun with it)!
2. They are NOT clear on their message. When there is lack of clarity in this area, prospective clients, collaborative partners, media and the like go where the message is clear. If you are not making is easy for people to discern right away how to do business with you, no matter how nice or gifted you are, they will go with the flow and ease of someone who does (ouch)! Imagine how much energy goes into trying to convince people to do business with you when you are not clear from the get-go. Since everything is energy, energy will follow the clearest path!
Tip: Use your vision to help you get clear on the difference that you wish to make so that you can get clear on your message. This is a priority, especially if you are not serving as many folks as you would like! The energy spent ‘chasing’ can now be spent attracting, and thus frees up your energy to create more wonderful products and services for your community!

3. They are NOT being their message. Prospects and clients won’t necessarily know why, but if you are not walking your talk, they can sense that a mile away. It boils down to practice what you preach (as often as you can). We’ve all encountered misaligned or inauthentic folks along our way, and it is harder to be around them compared to those in their power and speaking their truth.
Tip: Create rituals for self-care, energy management and mind-set management and offer what is your brilliance to make it easy for people to find you and desire to do business with you. This will turn you into an attraction magnet for ALL things ideal!
4. They are NOT at peace with money. Let’s face it, business is ALL about the money, whether you are allowing yourself to embrace that it or not. You have to have discussions with clients, vendors, team members, and many more about money – daily! When you are not at peace with receiving money, charging money, paying for things, or investing in the growth of your business, it WILL cost you – big time!
Tip: Make healing your money story a priority and invest in how to make that happen. You’re here to make a difference through your business – you can’t do that if it’s sinking!
5. They don’t play nice in the sandbox. Business is all about relationship. If you are not connecting, collaborating and creating community (which is the way of new paradigm business), you are going to be stuck in the pain that comes from competition and/or being the lone wolf.
Tip: Turn making connections into being JOYful. Go out and meet new people. Seek out communities that are aligned with you and your business and witness what comes from growing your business in a supportive environment.
6. They do NOT have a clear business model that actually matches their vision, message, and community. So often I see folks offering coaching packages when they’d rather do brief consulting gigs or vice versa. Or, their business model only offers 1 service when they’d rather offer a variety. These are just a few simple examples, but the truth is that as long as your business model doesn’t match your inner and outer goals for business it will keep you stagnant or even destroy your business (yikes)!
Tip: Get clear on what you are offering it, how you are offering it, who you are serving, how it benefits them (and how it benefits YOU)! If your business is not making enough to support itself and you, then you are not making a profit (which is what businesses need to do). Instead you have a very expensive hobby on your hands, and I know that is not your goal!
7. They do NOT take action and implement their million-dollar ideas. Ideas are only as useful and profitable as the implementation of them. So many conscious entrepreneurs get stuck in procrastination, perfection paralysis and analysis paralysis (and the reasons for that are a whole other article). When they do not create an action plan (and manage their energy as shared before), they lose money and watch their business stagnate or decline.
Tip: Create daily, weekly, monthly action plans for your most pressing business needs and plug them into your calendar. Extra tip: marketing should always be built in as equally important!
8. They do NOT have sacred support. Any successful business person will share with you that they did not do it alone, and in particular, had support such as accountability partners and business mentors. I’m a firm believer in coaching and have many myself. We all need a safe place to celebrate our successes, share our disappointments, create new ideas/see things in a new light AND learn the HOW (of being a successful entrepreneur, thriving in their purpose, and leaving a powerful legacy).
Tip: Don’t delay. Find a partner, a coach or someone that you can mentor with. This really will be the difference between where you are now and where you want to be.

If you are committed to your dreams then you either play big or you go home.
Believe me the rewards of being a 3% leader are amazing.
You must understand that this requires sweat, commitment and be coachable.
Be commited to listen and follow through with what your 3% mentor tells you. Remember they are where they are for a reason don’t deviate from that and try to re invent the wheel.

These people don’t reach their goals because they think and approach them differently.

Then when they have them they will actually commit to taking action and playing big.
Ultimately, they hope they will have the lifestyle of a top income earner and leader.
Of course this never happens because waiting to step up your game and playing big until the results flow in will never happen.
If your stuck in the 97% thinking you will not get the results of a top income earner and leader.
You are either in all the way and operate like a 3% or you might as well throw in the towel now, because you will not see the results you came to this industry for.
You need to BE the leader first and take massive action to have the results.
Commit to living by the BE-DO-HAVE principle and doing the 5 things that network marketing leaders do daily.
Your life will change if you follow these 5 simple principles daily.

Stop Trying To Inspire: Rekindle Your Own Fire First

Over the years, one of the biggest issues my clients have dealt with has been that of inspirational leadership. Some have been emerging leaders seeking the “recipe” for turning on the commitment of others, particularly members of the teams they lead. Others have been established leaders who’ve wanted to increase their inspirational leadership. How do you inspire the best in other people?
A good executive coach can help you skill-up with techniques to help bring out the best in your people. But whether you own a business or work as a leader (emerging or established) in an organization, the first step toward greater inspirational leadership is to stop trying to inspire others before you’ve done the work to rekindle your own personal inspiration. And the best coaches help you do THAT as a top priority.
Often, a leader is “under the gun” to somehow create the kind of gung-ho attitude in his team during tough economic times that seems to exist more naturally in good times. A good manager can movtivate her people, even in the tough times, and sometimes there are speeches you can make and words you can publish that’ll make the general fire burn brighter. Sometimes the “effort” method can have some effect. But in my experience, the “happy accident” of inspiring your people without trying (or, certainly, without appearing to try) is many times more effective than the best pep talks and incentive memos.

Inspire yourself first, and your natural behaviors will help fire up your people. You know by now, or soon will, that people generally want to be inspired, even (sometimes especially) at work. If you are an inspired person, you’ll be an inspiring person, and an inspiring leader.
Spend your time in activities that inspire you. Don’t ignore the “must do” part of your managerial agenda, but if you find yourself spending your entire life energy on the managerial equivalent of fixing a leaky toilet, rearrange your priorities. You can’t off-load all of your unsavory duties. But often leaders immerse themselves in things others should be doing simply because it’s what they (the leaders) know how to do, and what makes them feel successful. It’s a good way to avoid stepping up to a true leadership role. Start by finding truly inspiring (but still productive) ways to spend your time, and see if you can’t get the plumbing projects to fall naturally off your schedule.
That goes for the part of your day that doesn’t have to be spent at work. Get a hobby, or do some volunteer work, that helps keep your fire burning and reminds you that you’re living for more than your job. This time of year, I sing Christmas carols with a professional group, and I don’t do it for the little bit of money I make. I do it for the inspiration. I highly recommend that you find something equivalent.
Put inspiring things into your brain. Don’t ignore reality, but don’t spend your life reading and listening about the troubles in the world and in your business. The best leaders are optimists… and only optimistic leaders can be deeply inspiring to others. So stay on top of the news, both of the world and of the executive suites… but get some inspiring books and programs into your brain’s diet as well. Remember, your attitude will be the most infectious tool at your disposal, good or bad. Keep it upbeat.
Be sensitive and empathetic with others… but don’t take on their problems as your own. That’s a short road toward a dismal attitude. When others are gloomy, see if you can’t be the ray of sunshine in their lives. Taking on that challenge will keep you from being the gloomy one.
Inspirational leadership is not really an accident at all… but the best, most inspiring leaders turn their people on without trying, and they make it look easy, because they’re happy and inspired themselves. The attitude filters into their entire being, from thought to behavior to action. And their teammates, who are looking for the slightest excuse to be inspired, find that excuse in such leaders. As if by accident.
